What to Eat? A Guide to Starting Your Indian Food Trip

Have you ever experienced walking by an Indian restaurant in Leesburg, Virginia, and suddenly, your nose has a mind of its own? That’s a good question that we are sure a lot of our customers may often have. Not a lot of people are familiar with Indian food so here are our suggestions of must-tries in Indian cuisine

  • Tandoori Chicken
    This dish is popular especially in the northern part of India. It is a dish that consists a roasted chicken that is marinated with a tandoori masala spice mixture and yogurt. Then, it is served with cayenne pepper and Kashmiri red chili powder to get it that red flare. The name “tandoori” is derived out of its manner of cooking. It is cooked inside a tandoor, which is a type of cylindrical clay oven. This dish is best served with some basmati rice and crispy naan.
  • Butter Chicken
    Although traditionally cooked in a tandoor, butter chicken now has variety as it can be grilled, roasted, or pan-fried. It is infused with fresh tomato, garlic, and cardamom, butter, Khoa, and various spices such as asafoetida, cumin, cloves, cinnamon, coriander, pepper, fenugreek, and fresh cream. All these create a delicious balance of flavors that will make you want more.
  • Malai Kofta
    Malai Kofta is a sort of cream that you can place on top of your rice. It is cooked with a creamy sauce made from tomatoes and cashew nuts. The name Makalai Kofta literally means cream that will melt in your mouth. It is a great dish to try especially for vegetarians.
  • Masala Chai
    After having a hearty meal, drown your food with some masala chai which is a steaming cup of tea made with black tea and other aromatic spices and herbs. It’s both delicious and healthy.
